Happy ‘Everybody Reads YA’ Sunday. Today I’m sharing another excerpt from my contemporary adventure novel for teenage boys and girls – And Alex Still Has Acne. Last time I shared an extract of dialogue between the two boys, Sam and Alex. Today we hear a bit from Alex’s sister, Nicky.
Perhaps she was too fat? She got up and looked in the mirror. A small, slight, dark-haired girl stared back at her. She didn’t look at all like the rest of the family. Alex all gangly and clumsy like his dad, and red-headed like his mother. ‘The Irish side coming out,’ was what Mrs. Stevens used to say, proudly. No, she was just short and dark and squat – and everybody could see straight away that she must be adopted.
Life for fourteen year old Alex is OK most of the time. He enjoys school, has a best friend Sam, and a pretty and only mildly irritating younger sister, Nicky. But then Sam starts acting strangely, and so does Nicky – and both insist on sharing secrets with him and making him promise not to tell anyone. Then Nicky goes missing and only Alex feels he knows where to find her. But is Sam anywhere around to help?
